Heya sorry forgot to post this. This was a quick test I did where possible collectibles could be from looking at the possible character paths I created. The test was made to help visualise the Snow White face design. These apples also stand out well from the background. The green and red apples are the good collectibles. The cut green apple is the bad poisonous apple.

Traps
A few traps in case they can be used as well.
I've kept them black for now to go with the other "dark" parts of the game, also because they're pretty basic.
Might work out better if we think of adding these during Post-Production in case we're too short on time :)

Watercolours of sorts
This is a bundle of the watercolours I'd played around with both in Pre-Production (where we were originally going to have a dark background and a light foreground) and the Production stage.
Kalveer currently has the larger files and is attempting to put them together with the backgrounds/foregrounds she has produced.
Ironically one of my faverites is actually the light blue top middle version that was made during Pre-Production, and unfortunatly although the colours were bright when wet, they kept becoming pale once they had dried out (tried on different types of paper) not sure what everyone else thinks though.

Background Idea SW
Shortest Path for Character
These show the shortest path the character can take for each of the first 3 faces. The quickest route taken starting from SW face to HG and then to LRH. For the shortest path to complete the level you need to make sure that you collect all six keys (major collectibles) to enter doors in the next level. The other collectibles let you gain extra points if you get bad collectibles your points get subtracted. In this level there is only one door on the last face of the cube. BR
Below I have shown the path of the character and where possible enemies could be and collectibles. I have rotated the cube in the 4 possible ways it can be rotated when playing the game when paused, to help visualise the palyers path clearer.

CharacterWalkCycle
Hi all, Let me know what you think of this animation I created. I have made the arms and legs look floppy so that it works well with the cut out puppet style we are going for.

Filter
Just a spread of playing with the filter so we can work out exactly what's available to us in Photoshop if we want to play with the watercolour backgrounds I'll be producing over the weekend further.
There's some pretty interesting filters we should be able to try out on other things such as collectables as well.
I'll add the watercolours as soon as I have them painted (will be this weekend/early monday) if there are any you'd like me to try out with them let me know.

Character Development #1
Just a brief overview of the character development (Sorry for the late upload onto the blog - also the very initial sketches will be scanned and added later today!)
So I started off by sketching some basic portrait designs based on different games and animations.
I looked at:
Secret of Kells
Disgaea
Professor Laytons
Oliver Twist
Little Kings Story
FFCC My Life As King
We then agreed on a style and further sketches were then made:
(The bottom two drawings were just a look into animating and whether it would be easier on paper or digitally - to which we decided digitally via photoshop and overlapping planes on 3DsMax)
Further development still:
To which we decided on using the Orphan/Briefs design (In an attempt of keeping with the timeframe of the fairytales).

Idea of Fog background effect
The quick fog test I did in Photoshop just to see how it would like with another face visible in the background with a lower opacity. Further layers can be applied in the background to add detail and depth to make the face of the cube look visually more interesting. As we are are keeping to the watercolour backgrounds and stained glass window effects for the collectibles.
Final 6 level face designs for the cube
Snow White Face 1 |
Hansel and Gretal Face 2 |
Red Riding Hood Face 3 |
Mr Fox Face 4 |
Rumplestiltskin Face 5 |
Briar Rose Face 6 |
Here are the possible routes the character will have to take, to collect all the collectibles for each face of the cube.
Snow White Face - Character path |
Hansel and Gretal Face - Character path |
Red Riding Hood Face - Character path |
Mr Fox face - character path |
Rumplestiltskin face - character path |
Briar Rose face - character path From this I will try and work out the critical path for the character in order to complete the level. |
Level Ideas Rough sketches 3 of the other cube faces
Rough sketches made of possible level ideas for the other 3 faces of the cube.
